like buy one, get one entrees
at overpriced semi-casual restaurants
or near giveaways from
customer-loving publishers.
Finding used treasures makes me shriek.
50 cents for a Vonnegut book
creates suspicion that
someone is playing a trick
on my naive, book-loving soul.
If what you don't want is free to me,
I'd be crazy to let you discard it.
Hand-me-downs or hand-outs,
I'll take whatever I can get
my hands on.
Sure, I might be a little shallow
and my joy is a little sad,
but my eyes light up
like she just said
"I love you."
