A Week For Words!

I'm declaring this week "A Week For Words."

Tomorrow and Tuesday is the In Print Festival at Ball State, celebrating writing and publishing. Three authors--Mary Miler, Mitchell Douglas, and Kao Kalia Yang--will read from their recently published first books on Monday. On Tuesday, cool dude Matt Bell--Editor of The Collagist and The Best of the Web anthology--will join them to discuss publishing.

I'm especially excited for Mary Miller and Matt Bell. Both are authors who I have read a fair share as well as interviews/reviews about their work. Miller's book, Big World, is a beautiful looking thing; I pass it each day in the English building and I stare a lot. I can't wait to hold my own copy.

As big fan of the Collagist, I am super excited to hear Matt's insight on the publishing world, something he has enough experience with. Seriously, the dude is busy (don't believe me: check out his blog and the mountain of links). Also, maybe I can get some top secret info into how to get accepted to that journal. Twice rejected!

In conjunction with the festival, Ball State's now-international literary magazine The Broken Plate is releasing its new issue. I have several friends on this year's staff and I'm super stoked to see what they have for us. Also, I just signed up to be in that class/on that staff next year.

On Wednesday, some friends of mine, including Joe Cermak, Ryan Rader, and Ashley Ford, are reading at Motini's for this month's reading. I hear Joe might read some Creative NonFiction; vulgarity to ensue anywhichaway I'm sure.

Also, I'll probably write some words and hear some words and say some words and love some words this week in addition to the above great words things. If you do, send them my way.

Thank you are two nice words.
