BOOKS FOR THE TRIP

Confession: I'm a book over-packer! But these are the things I want to take on our upcoming two week CO/UT trip.

Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein: The excerpts I've read from this hurt my head. Everything from Stein hurts my head, but still there is something about this that makes me want to lug it around the country. Maybe the title (AWWWWW) or the size (AWWWWW tiny).

Poet's Companion by eds. Laux and Addonizio: Givin' me some insight, prompts, craft readings, some school away from school.

Collected Poems by Marianne Moore: I read two essays about Moore recently by Randall Jarrell. He says do this. I trust him!

Ashes For Breakfast by Durs Grunbein: This was a long shot. I wanted some translation flavor on this trip. Come on, I'm gonna be deep in America. East Germany poetry, here I come!

MC Oroville's Answering Machine by Mike Young: Been holding onto this one. Mike Young is an intriguing intriguing contemporary writer.

45 Mercy Street by Anne Sexton: Another Goodwill sweet deal. Excited to learn me something about a writer I've known about, but haven't been able to delve into much.

A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again by DFW: MOST EXCITING! It's been so long since I've read a book of prose. Gonna be sweeeeeet. Shooting for 30 pages a day in this.

First Course In Turbulence by Dean Young: Continuing the Dean Young kick.

The Duino Elegies by Rilke: I need more lyrical stuff in my life. I know this.

A New Path to the Waterfall by Carver: He can write stories, but poems?

Collected Essays by WC Williams: I love hearing my favorite writers talk about their favorite writers.

Life is good with books. Thank you.
